From July to December 2022, established pet supplement brands and new entrants alike showcased their latest innovations in the form of new products. Flip through this slideshow for a glimpse at these new products, each with a focus on addressing common health concerns for dogs and cats.
Pet nutraceutical brand Brave Paws introduced its new Anxiety and Stress Support Chewables for dogs, which are formulated with plant-based ingredients and a patented blend of stress-relieving botanicals. The patented blend includes Betulinic acid, Souroubea Spp., Platanus Spp. Bark, and Alpha- and Beta-Amyrin. The supplement is designed to reduce anxiety and stress for dogs experiencing noise phobias, separation anxiety or aging.
North American Herb & Spice entered the pet nutrition category with its new Houdi’s Foodies brand of human-grade supplements in July. The brand’s functional supplements include Hip & Joint SmartSupps®, Wellness Immune SmartSupps® and Vitamin SmartSupps® for dogs, and one formula for cats — Feline Wellness & Immune SmartSupps®.
Because, Animals introduced a new-and-improve supplement line for dogs and cats, formulated with the company’s proprietary Bmmune® Nutritional Yeast blend. According to the company, the Bmmune blend contains nutritional yeast that is high in protein and fiber, as well as fermentation powders to boost immune health. Nutritional yeast is a cultured ingredient containing naturally occurring B vitamins that support metabolism, immunity and brain development.
Vet Worthy introduced three new functional supplements in the back half of 2022. The company’s Joint, Calming and Skin & Coat Hide-A-Pill supplements feature functional ingredients in a flavored dough to increase palatability and functionality for pet owners administering pills or other formats of medications to their companions.
Harringtons, an English pet food brand by Inspired Pet Nutrition, expanded its Advanced Science Range of products to include new supplement formulations. The new dog supplements are available in chew and tablet forms targeting mobility and hip and joint support. The supplements contain green lipped mussel as a source of Omega 3 fatty acids, as well as “a bespoke blend” of vitamins C and E, manganese and glucosamine, and hyaluronic acid, according to Harringtons.
Zesty Paws launched its first range of puppy-specific products in August, including four supplements, training bites and a milk replacement product. The company created the puppy supplements based on four of its best-selling dog supplement formulas — Aller-Immune Bites, Calming Bites, 8-in-1 Multivitamin Bites, and Composure & Relaxation.
Super Snouts introduced a new supplement line — Chews + Daily — at SuperZoo 2022 in August. The supplements are available in three formulas: Digestive & Immune to support a healthy gut and immune system; Skin & Allergy to support healthy skin and target seasonal allergies; and Joint & Mobility to support joint, ligament and tendon health. Each recipe is formulated with all-natural ingredients, including cannabidiol (CBD) and cannabigerol (CBG), alongside other active ingredients.
Tonisity Inc. bolstered its pet hydration offerings in August with the introduction of new duck and salmon flavors for DoggyRade and KittyRade, as well as several new products in its DoggyRade portfolio. New DoggyRade products include DoggyRade Prebiotic Chewies; a Travel Kit that includes a 250-ml pouch of DoggyRade, a 250-ml pouch of YummyRade, and a package of Prebiotic Chewies; and a TummyRade Kit, which includes 500-ml pouches of DoggyRade and four packets of TummyRade.
Solid Gold introduced a new calming supplement in September. The supplement is formulated with Bioboost™, a proprietary blend that can improve nutrient absorption in dogs to support overall health and wellness. Other ingredients in the recipe include ashwagandha, valerian root, chamomile, L-Theanine, L-Tryptophan and melatonin.
Zesty Paws expanded its supplement portfolio with the launch of three cat supplements: Hemp Elements Plus™ Calming Bites™, Hemp Elements Plus™ Hairball Bites™ and Aller-Immune Bites™. Two of the supplements contain CBD created in partnership with CBDistillery™, a distributor and retailer of hemp-derived CBD.
Opal Pets, a vegan animal nutrition manufacturer, debuted its Perfect Powder in September, designed to serve as a complete vitamin, mineral and amino acid supplement for dogs. The supplement powder is formulated with organic Canadian sea kelp and algae and delivers Omega 3 fatty acids, calcium, B vitamins, L-carnitine, taurine and other nutrients essential for canines.
The company unleashed what it believes to be a first-of-its-kind cat supplement line. The dual-textured, pillow-style supplements mimic a popular cat treat format, while also delivering key active ingredients to address hairball issues, anxious behavior and mobility. The line currently includes three formulas: Hairball Support, Calming, and Hip + Joint Health.
Eye health company Bausch + Lomb Corporation announced its entrance into the pet health and nutrition industry with its new line: Project Watson. The line offers health care products to dogs within the United States, including two eye supplement formulations: Eye Supplement for Dogs + Tear Stain Support, and Eye + Multi-health Supplement.
Solid Gold added a fish oil supplement to its product portfolio in November. The new functional product is designed for dogs and cats of all ages, breeds and sizes, according to the company. Let’s Sea Fish Oil is derived from 100% natural, wild-caught salmon and pollock and serves as a rich source of Omega 3 fatty acids, which have been shown to support skin and coat health, heart health, and cognitive and immune system functions.
Pet retail giant Chewy teased the launch of its first private-label pet supplement line as part of its third-quarter earnings report in early December. The Vibeful portfolio includes several supplement formulas for dogs, including a 10-in-1 Multivitamin, Allergy & Immune Support, Mobility, Probiotic Soft Chews, Calming Soft Chews, and Grass Protection Soft Chews, as well as a Wild Alaskan Salmon Oil formula for dogs and cats.
