STATESVILLE, NC. — Blue Ridge Beef announced Jan. 3 that it’s recalling 1,350 lbs of its Beef Kitten Mix due to contamination of Salmonella.
Due to a customer complaint of animal illness, a sample of the product was collected by the Massachusetts Department of Agriculture and tested by the Massachusetts State Public Health Laboratory. The sample product tested positive for Salmonella, and on Jan. 3, the company was notified of this by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The products were distributed between July 18, 2024, and July 26, 2024. The product is packaged in clear plastic and sold primarily in retail stores located in Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York. The products affected are 1-lb bags of Kitten Mix with the lot number N25-0716.
Salmonella can affect both pets eating the product and humans who handle it. Consumers who have purchased the product are urged by the FDA to return to the place of purchase or destroy the food in a way that children, pets and wildlife cannot access.
