MANHATTAN, KAN. — Kansas State University’s (KSU) International Grains Program (IGP) Institute will host a virtual commercial pet food formulation course from Jan. 6 to 10. The five-day course will dive into various topics related to formulating pet food products.
The course will be held each day from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. CST. Topics covered include nutritional requirements and recommendations for cats and dogs, regulatory and labeling standards, raw material functionality, meeting packaging claims, and understanding processing methods for different product formats.
The instructors include Julia Pezzali, Ph.D., assistant professor and director of KSU’s Pet Food Program; Sajid Alavi, Ph.D., professor at KSU; Haley Larson, Ph.D., teaching assistant professor at KSU; Kathy Gross, Ph.D., independent consultant and adjunct faculty at KSU; Leah Lambrakis, vice president of research, development, nutrition and scientific affairs at Simmons Pet Food and Simmons Animal Nutrition; Greg Aldrich, Ph.D., chief operating officer of Nulo Pet Food; and James Templeman, Ph.D., director of nutrition and formulation at Primal Pet Foods and adjunct professor at the University of Guelph.
Pet food industry professionals, including those in formulation, product development, quality control, procurement, ingredient supplying, equipment manufacturing, sales, marketing, as well as students and new startups are encouraged to attend.
