MINNEAPOLIS — Blue Buffalo was named the official pet food and treats partner of Best Friends Animal Society (BFAS), an animal welfare organization and leader in pet adoption. Included in Blue Buffalo’s commitment to BFAS is an annual donation of more than 500,000 lbs. of food and treats to feed the pets at BFAS’s six Lifesaving Centers.

The new partnership expands the brand’s ongoing relationship with BFAS. In 2021 Blue Buffalo served as the founding partner of BFAS’s Northwest Arkansas Best Friends Pet Resource Center.

“Blue Buffalo was founded on the belief that pets are family — we love them like family, so we feed them like family,” said Liz Mascolo, president, North America at Blue Buffalo. “We are honored to play a role in the lifesaving work of Best Friends Animal Society by nourishing dogs and cats with BLUE’s superior nutrition in their moment of need, so they’re healthy and thriving when they go to forever homes.”

Founded in 1984, BFAS is a pioneer in the “no-kill” movement and has helped reduce the number of animals killed in shelters from an estimated 17 million per year to 415,000 last year, according to the organization. BFAS works with a network of more than 4,800 animal welfare and shelter partners, and community members nationwide.

“At Best Friends, we believe that pets belong in loving homes where they are cared for and fed like family, not in shelters,” said Julie Castle, chief executive officer of Best Friends Animal Society. “We are committed to saving the lives of the more than 4.7 million pets that enter shelters each year in the United States and we are thrilled and deeply grateful to partner with Blue Buffalo to provide essential nutrition to the cats and dogs in our care.”
