CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA — Fluid Quip Technologies (FQT), a technology and process engineering firm, announced the completion and commissioning of the “world’s largest” MSC™ System to date. The system produces corn fermented protein for use in pet food, animal feed, aquaculture and other animal nutrition applications.

FQT’s MSC System produces Still Pro 50TM, a high-value protein ingredient made from a blend of spent brewer’s yeast and corn gluten meal. According to FQT, the protein has shown great success in the pet food, aquaculture, dairy, poultry and swine markets. Additionally, the protein ingredient touts up to a 40% lower carbon footprint compared to other protein products, according to FQT.

“Our MSC™ Technology is critical to not only creating a high-quality protein ingredient for pet food, but also allowing ethanol plants to achieve greater corn oil yields,” said Neal Jakel, president of FQT.

The new MSC System was installed at Tharaldson Ethanol’s biorefinery in Casselton, ND, making it the 12th in the world. FQT provided the MSC technology, as well as engineering, design, procurement, construction management and startup services for the project. According to the company, the completion of the project brings overall production capacity of MSC protein to more than 750,000 tons annually.

Additionally, the company is currently constructing the 13th MSC System at Ensus UK Limited’s facility in the United Kingdom.

“FQT is excited to commission our largest MSC™ System and continue to collaborate with our customers to maximize the value of every kernel of corn,” Jakel said. “The project is a testament to the market and value the team has achieved as nutrition customers look for more corn fermented protein to utilize in their rations.”
