JOHANNESBURG — Trouw Nutrition South Africa’s subsidiary Nutreco International B.V has agreed to acquire AECI Limited’s Animal Health business. According to Nutreco, the strategic acquisition highlights its dedication to the African continent and advances its mission to “Feed the Future.”
Established in 1924, AECI specializes in diversified chemicals for mine-to-mineral, water treatment and raw materials solutions, as well as food and beverage ingredients, vitamins and minerals, plant nutrients and more. The company’s Animal Health business offers animal feed premixes.
Through the acquisition, Nutreco will leverage AECI’s animal nutrition capabilities. According to Nutreco, AECI’s Animal Health business will enhance its existing operations in South Africa. The company plans to integrate AECI’s distribution network and manufacturing site in Burgersdorp, South Africa, providing it a broader reach into key markets.
“Together, we’re set to strengthen our support for South African farmers and advance sustainable agricultural practices,” Nutreco shared. “We look forward to the completion of this acquisition, and are excited about the opportunities this integration will unlock.”
According to AECI, the transaction aligns with its strategy to streamline its operations and focus on its core capabilities to help ensure the growth of its Animal Health business. The transaction will also enable AECI to concentrate its efforts and resources on its Mining and Chemicals business.
“We are pleased to have found a partner that shares our vision and values in Nutreco,” said Holger Riemensperger, group chief executive officer of AECI. “This transaction represents a significant milestone in our journey, and we are confident that the Animal Health business will thrive under Nutreco’s leadership.”
The acquisition is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of this year.
