PARIS — Ÿnsect launched its new B2B2C brand of insect-based ingredients specifically for the pet food and treat industry: Sprÿng. The new brand offers premium ingredients that offer health benefits, as well as boasts a low environmental impact.

“More than just ingredients, Sprÿng wants to enlighten pet owners and embody a real choice in the way they consume for their companions,” said Alice Pabst Landon, head of marketing at Ÿnsect. “A choice without concession: quality without feeling guilty about its environmental footprint.”

With pet populations continuing to grow, many pet parents are becoming more environmentally conscious of the impact their pets have on the environment, especially when it comes to their nutrition. With this in mind, Ÿnsect has developed Sprÿng, which affirms its mission to revolutionize the current food system, according to the company.

“Our pets are an extension of our family and there is nothing more important than your family’s health and safety,” said Benjamin Armenjon, Ph.D., general manager for animal nutrition and health at Ÿnsect. “With that in mind, we looked for a way to maximize your pet’s quality of life by creating Sprÿng. Our brand guarantees pet food manufacturers a sustainable option with the highest quality nutrition for their fur babies. It is the key to rebalancing our pet diets, providing nutrition and protecting the environment.”

The new Sprÿng brand offers “highly technical products” to help reduce the pet food and treat industry’s impacts on the environment. According to Ÿnsect, the ingredients have a smaller environmental footprint compared to other ingredients with the same properties.

“At Sprÿng, we raise mealworms to provide a new qualitative source of food for pets while limiting our impact,” said Maximilien Jouy, impact manager, Ÿnsect. “The contribution to climate change of one kilo of our Protein70 feed, for example, is 17 times lower than that of beef offal, but also lower than that of chicken offal.”

The new brand offers ingredients that are easy to incorporate into pet nutrition formulas, neutral tasting and odorless. The light brown colored ingredients are developed using mealworms, the larval form of the Tenebrio molitor, a species of beetle. They offer high nutritional benefits and can be used in both dry and wet pet foods. According to Ÿnsect, Sprÿng offers the highest protein content (up to 71%) in the current insect market, low ash content of less than 5% and contains linolic acids.

With Sprÿng, Ÿnsect hopes to position itself as the leader in the alternative proteins market and increase its orders, which currently consists of $175 million worth of signed contracts. The company also shared that it has $1 billion worth of contracts undergoing negotiation.

“Our mission with Ÿnsect has always been to create a natural, healthy and sustainable solution to combat world hunger,” said Antoine Hubert, chief executive officer of Ÿnsect. “Sprÿng is the next evolution in bringing that mission into reality. This unique pet food provides our customers with a nutritious option for their pets that has the lowest environmental impact possible, something that has been unavailable before now.”

The launch of Sprÿng follows several expansions for Ÿnsect. In 2021, the company broke ground on the “world’s largest vertical farm” in Aimens, France, which is set to make its first deliveries this year. At the end of 2022, the company detailed plans to build its second insect farm in the United States and its first in Mexico.
