CINCINNATI — Flexible packaging leader ProAmpac announced Dec. 20 it has acquired Prairie State Group (PSG), a flexible packaging and labeling supplier based in Franklin Park, Ill. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
PSG is SQF-certified and is expected to enhance ProAmpac’s flexible packaging portfolio for food and pet food applications. The acquisition is also expected to expand ProAmpac’s labeling capabilities and its customer base.
“PSG’s experienced leadership team and innovative sustainable packaging portfolio are strong complements to ProAmpac,” said Greg Tucker, founder and chief executive officer of ProAmpac. “As we continue our growth and expansion strategy, PSG’s world-class manufacturing capabilities, strong market position and commitment to product quality will enhance our offering to customers around the world.”
PSG offers sustainable packaging solutions through its portfolio of wrappers, pouches, compostable films, roll stock and pressure-sensitive labels. The company has a vertically integrated manufacturing model.
“We are thrilled to join Greg and the ProAmpac team. Our companies share a strong commitment to quality, safety and sustainability,” said Rick Heinzen, founder and chief executive officer of PSG. “With this combination, I’m confident that ProAmpac is the right partner to support PSG’s continued growth.”
The founders and current management team at PSG will remain with the business following ProAmpac’s acquisition.
“PSG’s expertise in labeling, pouching and compostable products is a great fit with ProAmpac’s offering of sustainability-focused packaging solutions,” added Graham Redding, president of PSG. “Our partnership will advance our commitment to innovation and position our businesses to serve a broader customer base with high-quality, specialized products.”
ProAmpac is currently owned by Pritzker Private Capital, as well as by company management and other co-investors. The company currently operates nearly 50 global cities, which employ more than 6,000 employees. ProAmpac serves more than 5,000 customers across 90 countries.
“The addition of Prairie State Group rounds out an exciting year of growth for ProAmpac,” said Kaitlyn Desai, vice president at Pritzker Private Capital. “This acquisition enhances ProAmpac’s leadership position in the fast-growing food and pet food markets while further strengthening its commitment to sustainable packaging solutions.”
This marks the company’s third acquisition so far in 2021. In August, ProAmpac acquired Euroflex, a family-owned packaging material and solutions provider based in Ireland. In April, the company acquired El Dorado Packaging, a paper-based packaging and printing solutions provider operating in Arkansas, Minnesota and Nebraska.
