VISALIA, CALIF. — Livia Global, Inc. issued a voluntary recall of two liquid probiotic products for pets, as well as several products for humans, due to potential contamination. The products may be contaminated with Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa), a microorganism that can cause “life-threatening infection in immunocompromised individuals,” according to the company.
P. aeruginosa infections are typically limited to hospital settings, Livia Global added. Recalled products include all LiviaOne Nasal Probiotics with the lot code #010620-1 and best-by date of 8/2023, as well as the following products with the lot code #001004-1 and best-by date of 4/2023. The contamination was discovered during third-party lab testing. Livia Global stated no other lot codes, ship dates or LiviaOne products are affected by the recall. The company reported it has not received any direct complaints and has issued the recall “out of an abundance of caution.” BioLifePet Probiotics are the only pet-specific products included in the recall.
“We apologize for any concern or inconvenience this situation causes our customers and are here to support them,” said Deborah Moreno, chief operations officer at Livia Global. “Livia Global is dedicated to the safety, health and welfare of its customers above all else. We continue to invest in the safety and quality protocols to ensure we produce only the best products.”
