ABERDEEN, UNITED KINGDOM — Wood, a consulting and engineering firm, has entered a contract with DSM Nutritional Products, Inc., a Netherlands-based ingredient manufacturer for health, nutrition and biotech applications, to upgrade DSM’s carotenoid factory in Freeport, Texas.
The agreement builds on Wood’s previous support for DSM projects in other regions but will be the first operations-focused project Wood will support for DSM in the southern United States. The contract includes various individual projects as part of a larger, site-wide upgrade, such as civil, structural, piping, electrical and fiber optic improvements.
As part of these projects, some foundations, electrical equipment, conduits and wiring in the current Freeport facility will be demolished. Wood will perform a majority of project tasks using in-house experts.
“This contract solidifies our position in the local market and provides us with an opportunity to leverage our proven capabilities in operations and maintenance within the food and beverage sector,” said Paul Leonard, president of operations for Wood’s Americas business. “As global populations rise, we need to think about how we grow, consume and provide food for a sustainable future. We are looking forward to working with DSM, a company with sustainability and a vision for better global nutrition at its heart, on this contract and future projects in Freeport.”
The project is expected to be completed in early 2022.
