TEWKSBURY, MASS. — WellPet, LLC announced Nov. 2 its facility in Mishawaka, Ind. has received an “AA” grade certification from the British Retail Consortium’s (BRC) Global Standard for Food Safety, a globally recognized accreditation for Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) compliance for food safety and quality.
"Our Mishawaka, Indiana manufacturing facility is core to our business and providing pet parents with the food they trust to fulfill a shared life of wellbeing together, so the achievement of such high marks from the BRC is a true honor,” said Tricia DiPersio, vice president of food safety, quality assurance and regulatory affairs at WellPet. “We're incredibly proud of the entire Mishawaka team for their contributions. At WellPet, we've built an exceptional food safety culture, and this accreditation shows our unwavering commitment to food safety and quality assurance."
This marks WellPet’s third manufacturing facility to receive “high marks” through the BRC’s Global Standard for Food Safety program. In April, WellPet achieved an “A” grade certification from the BRC at its Farm Fresh Kitchens manufacturing site in Minnesota.
The Global Standard for Food Safety assesses several food safety aspects, including senior management’s commitment to creating a culture of product safety, food safety evaluation based on critical control points and a company’s food safety plan, document management for policies and procedures, environmental and operational conditions, prevention systems, product security and food defense, according to the BRC.
WellPet shared its in-house team manages the entire manufacturing process from raw material quality analysis to final product shipments. The company manufactures several premium pet food and treat brands, including Wellness Natural Pet Food, WHIMZEES, Old Mother Hubbard, Holistic Select, Eagle Pack and Sojos.
