SÃO PAULO — BRF Pet, the pet nutrition-focused subsidiary of global food producer BRF S.A., has signed an agreement to acquire Mogiana Alimentos S.A. The company stated the amount of the transaction is undetermined and will be announced once the deal is closed.
BRF will technically acquire Paraguassu Participações S.A. and Affinity Petcare Brasil, which own 100% of Mogiana Alimentos capital stock. The transaction was approved by the boards at both companies.
Mogiana Alimentos is a Brazilian pet food manufacturer that has served in that market for more than 46 years. The Campinas-based company specializes in dog and cat nutrition and operates primarily in the southeastern region of Brazil. It distributes domestically as well as in the Caribbean, Europe and elsewhere in South America.
The company runs two production units — Campinas-SP and Bastos-SP — to segregate its domestic and international production. Mogiana Alimentos produces super premium brands Guabi Natural, Gran Plus and Faro, as well as Herói and Cat Meal brands in less-premium segments.
With the acquisition, BRF Pet hopes to enhance and diversify its business position. One of the company’s goals is to become “one of the largest and most relevant players in the Brazilian pet food market by 2025,” and will do so by pursuing opportunities that expand production capacity, logistics, innovation and specialized distribution.
Once the deal is finalized, BRF will hold an estimated 10% share of the Brazilian pet food market, according to ABINPET, the Brazilian Association of the Pet Products Industry.
