WASHINGTON — Pet Food Institute (PFI) has released a series of infographics demonstrating, “Nutrition from Whisker to Paw,” how key nutrients in complete and balanced cat food benefits feline health. The new resource is interactive and provides facts about essential nutrition that supports growth and body systems, as well as non-essential nutrients that can also provide functional benefits.

After releasing a similar series of infographics about dog nutrition in 2017, “Nutrition from Nose to Tail,” PFI has provided similar information for cat owners with this new resource. Some key information includes nutrients that support healthy vision, provide energy, and promote muscle development and maintenance.

"US pet food makers work to ensure every meal has the nutrition that your cat needs," said Dana Brooks, president and CEO of PFI. "The new 'Nutrition from Whisker to Paw' resource highlights the science behind a pet's diet and why their nutrition matters."

According to PFI, a “complete and balanced diet” for cats and dogs consists of more tan 40 nutrients identified by veterinary researchers and nutritionists. These diets include vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, and protein and amino acids. The basis of this measurement for cats and dogs is mandated by the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO).
