READING, ENGLAND — Clasado Biosciences, a developer of prebiotic ingredients and solutions for the gut microbiome, announced Oct. 22 the launch of Bimuno® Pet, marking its entry into the pet nutrition market.
Global pet food sales are estimated to reach $161.6 billion by 2028, according to Research and Markets. This growth continues to be fueled by the humanization of pets, as consumers seek more solutions-oriented, functional products, like those formulated with prebiotics to support gut health.
With this in mind, Clasado is applying its human health prebiotics to pets. The company has introduced Bimuno Pet branding, an identity that pet nutrition formulators can use on packaging.
“For two decades, Clasado has been at the forefront of prebiotic research and development, primarily focused on human health applications,” said Per Rehné, chief executive officer of Clasado. “As we mark our 20th anniversary, we’re using our gut microbiome expertise to support the rapidly growing pet nutrition sector. This move represents a natural evolution for our business and an opportunity to contribute to the health and wellbeing of companion animals.”
Clasado’s proprietary ingredient, Bimuno® GOS (galactooligosaccharides) is shown to support gastrointestinal, immune, cognitive and metabolic health in humans. According to the company, it is the most studied in the GOS category with support from more than 120 scientific publications and more than 20 clinical trials. Additionally, the ingredient has been associated with pet nutrition health claims in specific markets, like China and Taiwan.
“The pet nutrition market is seeing a surge in demand for gut health supporting products, driven by the increasing awareness of the microbiome by the wider market,” said Steven Riley, head of B2B and corporate marketing at Clasado. “We can meet this demand head-on, applying our extensive knowledge of prebiotic galactooligosaccharides to support animal health.
“It’s an exciting time for our growing team; the pet nutrition market is growing at speed as owners seek to continually improve their pets’ quality of life,” he added. “Gut health forms a natural area of focus in this regard, and of course, prebiotics. We’re looking forward to collaborating with animal health brands and their formulation teams to develop microbiome-supporting products for pet health that make a difference.”
