SECAUCUS, NJ. — Freshpet, Inc. announced a new partnership with singer Meghan Trainor for a new campaign on April 11. As part of the campaign, Trainor has become Freshpet’s first ambassador and created a new song, highlighting her bond with her dog and her beliefs about the importance of feeding fresh, healthy food to pets.
“Meghan is a remarkable talent and we know she’s only going to continue to rise to new heights,” said Scott Morris, co-founder and president of Freshpet. “We were drawn to her confidence, her warm personality, and, of course, her love for her dogs. She is unapologetically obsessed with her dogs and their health and happiness, which makes her align perfectly with Freshpet and what we stand for. Meghan’s authenticity and spirit is something we admire, and we’re thrilled to welcome her to the Freshpet family.”
Trainor will appear in Freshpet’s online and social media campaigns beginning this month, as well as a personal appearance and more throughout their partnership. According to Freshpet, the partnership will help “awaken” more pet parents to the benefits of feeding fresh.
“Being a parent to my two boys and four pups has been the greatest joy of my life,” Trainor said. “Freshpet and I share similar mindsets in wanting what’s best for our pets to help them live the longest, happiest lives. I used to make my dogs’ food from scratch. So, when I came across Freshpet, made with real meat, fruits and vegetables, I knew I had found a brand I could trust, and I’ve never seen them more excited for mealtime. My girls deserve the best, and the best is Freshpet.”
In addition to the campaign partnership with Trainor, Freshpet announced updates to its board of directors on April 10. Board Member Lawrence S. Coben, Ph.D., announced his retirement effective April 8.
“On behalf of our board of directors and management team, I would like to thank Larry for all his contributions during his tenure as a director,” said Walter N. George, chairman of Freshpet. “He has been a member of our board since Freshpet’s IPO in 2014 and we have sincerely appreciated his keen business insights and commitment to strong corporate governance.”
Lauri Kien Kotcher has joined the board, effective April 9, replacing Coben’s role on the board’s Nominating and Governance Committee.
“We are thrilled to welcome Lauri to Freshpet’s board of directors,” George said. “She has a strong track record of growing and scaling businesses from early stage to over $5 billion in revenue, and we believe her expertise will provide valuable perspective to the Board and management team as Freshpet continues to scale.”
Kien Kotcher has more than three decades of operational and leadership experience at high-growth companies. She has served as chief executive officer of quip, The Shade Store and Hello Products, and has served as chief marketing officer of Godiva Chocolatier.
“I have admired Freshpet for pioneering the fresh pet food category in the US and I am very pleased to join the board,” Kien Kotcher said. “I see a tremendous opportunity for future growth and I look forward to contributing to its success and supporting Freshpet’s leadership team as they execute on their strategy and create long-term value for shareholders.”
Coben added, “It has been an honor to serve on Freshpet’s board for the last 10 years and I am incredibly proud of what we have been able to accomplish. I believe now is a good time for me to step down in order to refresh the Board and continue to improve upon the director diversity. I am confident in Lauri’s ability to fill my role with her leadership experience and demonstrated track record of success.”
