WALNUT CREEK, CALIF. — Central Garden & Pet announced its acquisition of TDBBS, LLC, from Bregal Partners. According to Central, the acquisition will expand its portfolio by adding bully and collagen sticks, bones and jerky pet treats, as well as strengthen its e-commerce and digital capabilities.
“We are excited to welcome the TDBBS team into the Central Garden & Pet organization,” said Beth Springer, interim chief executive officer of Central. “Our Central to Home strategy is focused on building further scale in our two industries and growing leading brands consumers love. Adding TDBBS’s established brands and digital capabilities solidifies our position in the large and growing dog treats and chews category and will strengthen our footprint with key customers.”
Based in Richmond, Va., TDBBS is a producer of premium dog chews and treats and is the parent company of Barkworthies®, Best Bully Sticks® and Paw Love® brands, all of which offer a variety of natural, grain- and gluten-free, low-fat, high-protein and limited-ingredient treats and chews.
TDBBS was originally founded as a digitally native brand. Since its inception, the company’s brands and online platforms have become synonymous with the bully stick category, according to TDBBS. It now offers its products direct to consumers online and via third-party sites, as well as in-store at pet specialty, grocery, mass and club retailers.
“For over 15 years, TDBBS has been proud to offer the widest selection of high-quality natural dog treats and chews,” said Tom Goundrey, chief executive officer of TDBBS. “We believe pets are family, and they deserve quality ingredients just like us. We are excited for this next chapter in our business as part of Central Garden & Pet. Central’s resources, capabilities and expertise in the pet industry will be key to growing our business further.”
The transaction closed on Nov. 3. Central will provide additional details on the acquisition in its fourth quarter and fiscal year earnings call later this month.
