BOULDER, COLO. — Petcurean has upped the ante with the Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC), becoming its latest Icon-level member. The Icon level represents the highest tier of membership with PSC and, according to the organization, Petcurean remains “one of PSC’s most engaged and committed members.”
“Petcurean has upgraded its membership to the Icon level as PSC’s work accelerates in addressing the industry’s most pressing challenges, including plastic packaging and sustainable ingredient sourcing,” said Erica Haas, director of member services at PSC. “This move demonstrates the company’s deepening commitment to sustainability. As an accredited member of PSC, they have demonstrated a transparent commitment to measure, verify and continuously improve their environmental and social impact. Transitioning to Icon membership broadcasts their leadership to the wider pet community.”
Icon-level members support PSC as it seeks to advance industry-wide sustainability priorities, including eco-friendly packaging, sustainable ingredient sourcing, and diversity, equity and inclusion.
“Advancing sustainable practices is integral to the future of the pet food industry, and we recognize the critical role we have at Petcurean to help pet parents live more sustainably,” said Christine Mallier, sustainability and community relations manager at Petcurean. “We’re thrilled to become an Icon member with the Pet Sustainability Coalition as this represents an important milestone in our dedication to meaningful action.”
Petcurean was one of the first five pet industry brands to sign PSC’s Packaging Pledge at SUPERZOO 2022. The pledge asks pet industry companies to develop measurable progress toward the use of refillable, compostable and recyclable packaging by the end of 2025. In return, PSC will provide participating companies with tools and information to help them advance their packaging sustainability goals.
In addition to this commitment, Petcurean released its second-annual Sustainability Impact Report in September 2022, in which the brand detailed its four-year plan to reduce greenhouse emissions, support employees and give back to communities, and develop governance led by more ethical, transparent and accountable business practices and operations.
“We hold a deep-rooted sense of responsibility to our customers, our people, our community and our planet at Petcurean — and have done so since day one,” Mallier added. “From publishing our Sustainability Impact Report to achieving carbon neutral status for Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions to using alternative proteins like black soldier fly larvae, we keep challenging the status quo with our commitment to sustainability. Not only are we open and transparent but we strive for continuous improvement in our performance and reporting — and this allows us to continue making positive impacts.”
