RICHMOND, VA. — TDBBS, parent company of Barkworthies, announced earlier this month that Pet Supermarket has become the first pet retailer to carry Barkworthies’ new line of Hickory BBQ Dog Chews, beginning Memorial Day weekend. Through the partnership, Pet Supermarket will offer the new dog chews at its stores in Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia and North Carolina.
“We could not be happier to join forces with Pet Supermarket to offer our new line of Barkworthies smoked BBQ dog chews to its customer base,” said Andrea Blades, chief marketing officer for TDBBS. “We share in our excitement to bring this new line of high quality, hickory sweet smelling dog chews to discerning pet parents across the country.”
The All-Natural Sweet Smoky Aroma Hickory BBQ Dog Chews by Barkworthies feature eight SKUs of cold-smoked chews including bully sticks, trachea, yak cheese, chicken breast fillet, beef sticks and burgers, and rib bones.
The chews were first launched in May 2023 and were designed to entice pets and pet owners with Southern-inspired BBQ aromas. According to the company, Barkworthies created the line to address a common pet parent request — better smelling single ingredient chews.
“Through our research and consumer studies, we know that dog parents want to give their dogs the best in health and nutrition,” Blades said. “But single ingredient natural chews such as Bully Sticks or Pig Ears often come with one top complaint — the odor. While dogs love stinky chews, dog parents simply don’t. Our research shows that this can sometimes result in the pet parent choosing an unhealthy choice (such as rawhide) simply to avoid an unpleasant odor.”
