MIAMI — Sustainable seafood company Blue Star Foods Corp. shared it has ramped up its shipments to dog food company JustFoodForDogs.
Earlier this year, the two companies signed a contract, detailing that Blue Star would supply JustFoodForDogs with 2.5 million lbs of wild-caught cod to use in its pet food. The contract is expected to generate about $4 million in revenue for Blue Star and represents the company’s first foray into pet food.
“We are off to a solid start with JustFoodForDogs, in what is a new category for us,” said John Keeler, chairman and chief executive officer of Blue Star. “Our cod fishery is certified by the Marine Stewardship Council and is managed in a responsible and sustainable manner in accordance with internationally recognized criteria.”
Blue Star is an integrated Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) seafood company with a focus in Recirculatory Aquaculture Systems (RAS). It currently owns and operates the oldest continuously running RAS salmon farm in North America, according to the company.
Launched in 2010 by Shawn Buckley, JustFoodForDogs produces fresh pet food, formulated by veterinarians and specialists.
