VIENNA — Coveris, a flexible packaging manufacturer, introduced a new business segment to advance circular plastic recycling. The segment, called ReCover, will serve as a separate entity, supporting Coveris as well as third parties seeking recyclable packaging.
ReCover will combine efforts in waste sourcing, processing and recycling, serving as a closed loop system for plastic recycling.
“With ReCover, we have launched a game-changing process — unique within the entire industry,” said Jakob A. Mosser, chief executive officer, Coveris. “With several high-impact projects in the pipeline, we are aiming at establishing a stand-alone business nit in the next couple of years, entirely dedicated to circular economy and closing the loop. ReCover is a platform for all mechanical recycling activities but also leads our developments to achieve food contact compliant materials.”
To expand upon its recycling capabilities, Coveris also recently acquired a new facility and assets from Capital Valley Plastics (CVP), based in the United Kingdom. CVP is a polyethylene recycler and processes post-consumer and post-industrial waste into films. The facility features state-of-the-art mechanical recycling equipment and boasts an annual capacity of 20,000 tons.
Coveris will use the newly acquired facility to support its ReCover operation.
“The newly acquired Blaenavon site and assets will serve as an important recycling hub for Coveris’ Films and Flexibles operations, closing the loop for customers and for our own film production across the network,” Mosser said. “This new recycling acquisition marks a perfect start for our new company ReCover and our quest to continuously enhance our recycling offers to our customers, truly closing the loop and bringing us closer to our vision of no waste.”
These efforts in plastic recycling are part of Coveris’s overall mission to reduce waste and pollution while also supporting its customers’ goals toward sustainability. For the pet nutrition space, the company provides various recyclable solutions, from flat-bottom and free-standing bags to pouches, flow packs and more.
