ALEXANDRIA, VA. — The Pet Advocacy Network appointed Ashley Brinkman to director of government affairs on Sep. 7. Brinkman will direct the organization’s committee management and will also track legislation and engage with lawmakers and government officials on pet-related laws and legislation.
“I am excited to use my experience influencing US policy at the federal, state, and local levels to assist Pet Advocacy Network in furthering its mission,” Brinkman said. "Within this new position I am looking forward to advocating for pet ownership, animal health and well-being, and ensuring the pet care community thrives.”
Prior to her new position with the Pet Advocacy Network, Brinkman served as government affairs office manager for Berkshire Hathaway, where she researched federal legislation, policies, proposals and white papers. She also served as a legislative analyst for the RV Industry Association (RVIA), leading the organization’s advocacy efforts.
“Ashley is a great addition to our team because of her vast experience in government relations, including leading PACs and tracking legislation at all levels of government,” said Mike Bober, president and chief executive officer of Pet Advocacy Network. "We are confident she will thrive in this role given her ability to interact with lawmakers and analyze complex pieces of legislation.”
As well as experience in government relations, Brinkman also has a passion for animals. She has worked as a docent at the Louisville Zoo, a naturalist assistant at a raptor rehabilitation center, an aquaculture research intern at a biology field station, and a retail associate at a pet retailer.
“We're thrilled to be working with Ashley and appreciated the opportunity to introduce her to the community at SuperZoo,” said Wes Fisher, senior director of government affairs at Pet Advocacy Network. “She will be an outstanding addition to both our staff and the Government Affairs team.”
