OMAHA, NEB. — On Sept. 15, Scoular announced the new brand for its fishmeal and fish oil business: Encompass™. The business supplies marine protein ingredients to companies in more than 40 countries year-round and remains the largest importer of fishmeal in the United States.
The company, which has been operating in this space for decades, is also active in the marine ingredient market in Mexico and is planning additional fishmeal investments in Myanmar.
“Scoular has long been a leading global fishmeal partner that connects suppliers and customers with a full spectrum of fishmeal products and services,” said Steve Dahlblom, product group manager for marine meals at Scoular. “The brand Encompass represents the customized solutions, consistent quality and reliability that our global suppliers and customers trust Scoular to deliver without disruption.”
Scoular cited growth in demand for fishmeal ingredients for use in pet food and aquaculture applications, especially as Omega 3 fatty acids, DHA and EPA become more prevalent as on-trend functional nutrients in pet food, treat and supplement formulations.
The company will continue building its fishmeal business. This includes investing in a $12 million fishmeal processing facility in Warrenton, Ore. with two partners, which will specifically supply local fish processing trimmings to pet food and aquaculture manufacturers. The facility is expected to begin operations in summer of 2022.
Additionally, Scoular will establish a fishmeal facility in Myanmar in October 2021 that will supply markets across Asia. Lastly, the company recently hired Chad Gauger as general manager for its high nutritional value proteins business. Gauger brings 26 years of experience to the new role, including having previously served as managing director of aquaculture nutrition for Cargill’s Southeast Asia division and global risk management director for the company’s animal nutrition business.
