BOULDER, COLO. — The Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC) announced April 6 it has partnered with Makeena, a consumer app designed to connect shoppers with health-focused, eco-friendly brands and products, to help companies accredited through PSC leverage Makeena’s mobile platform to drive sales.
PSC offers an accreditation program to help brands identify and implement environmental and social sustainability practices in their business. Through the accreditation program, companies receive sales and marketing support from PSC. The organization has accredited 47 pet industry companies to-date.
"We are elated to partner with Makeena, given their dedication to connecting conscious consumers with brands dedicated to creating a better planet,” said Caitlyn Dudas, executive director of PSC. “This new marketing opportunity for our accredited companies is a great way to get in front of consumers eager to learn more about their sustainability leadership, and earn rewards for purchasing their products.”
Using Makeena, which PSC said is referred to as “the app for good,” consumers can scan product bar codes and submit receipts through the app to receive cash back benefits and other rewards for purchasing “better-for-you, better-for-the-planet” products.
PSC’s partnership with Makeena would add companies accredited through PSC to the platform. Makeena would also engage in joint marketing and add a search function for consumers to discover PSC-accredited pet brands.
“Makeena shoppers can easily discover and learn about a wide variety of brands, ranging from food and beverage to cosmetics, clothing, and of course, pet products,” said Karen Frame, chief executive officer and founder of Makeena. “It’s important for all of us to be able to find and support companies that are taking the extra steps necessary to become more eco-friendly. Our partnership with the Pet Sustainability Coalition is a perfect fit and we couldn’t be more excited to help their Pet Sustainability Accredited companies share their stories, continue to grow, and engage with all of Makeena’s mindful users.”
Pet food and treat companies and suppliers that have been accredited by PSC so far include Josera, MFiber, Morris Packaging, West Paw, Alltech, Annamaet Petfoods, Duynie Ingredients, Earth Animal, Nature’s Logic, Peel Plastic Products, Polka Dog Bakery, Portland Pet Food, Chews Happiness, Tender & True, Brutus Bone Broth, Do Only Good Functional Nutrition, Zesty Paws, “I and Love and You,” Meat Me, MPM, Petcurean, Scout & Zoe’s, Stella & Chewy’s, Thhanh Phu, Veramaris and WellPet.
