AUSTIN, TEXAS — SquarePet announced this month a new line of solutions-based premium dog food products, each formulated by the brand’s team of veterinary professionals to deliver all-natural support for five areas of canine health and wellness.

SquarePet VFS®, which stands for “Veterinarian Formulated Solutions,” meets increasing demand for functional nutrition, a trend that stems from the human food industry and has evolved in the pet food and treat market over the last few years.

“As we all know pet parents are becoming increasingly more sophisticated and nutritionally savvy when it comes to their pets’ nutrition,” said Travis Atkins, DVM, chief science officer at SquarePet. “This is a great thing, but many of these well-informed pet parents are left with having to compromise when it comes to finding a solutions-based or functional nutritional diet option inside a typical retail environment. The VFS line includes five functional formulas. The Active Joints formula includes natural sources of glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate, sourced from turkey necks, New Zealand green-lipped mussel and eggshell membrane collagen, to support mobility. It also includes Omega 3 DHA and EPA ingredients, and is fortified with antioxidants.

VFS Skin & Digestive Support is intended for dogs with allergies or sensitivities to certain ingredients or foods. The limited-ingredient diet features a hydrolyzed protein for sensitive stomachs. On the other hand, VFS Ideal Digestion is formulated with cage-free turkey and cage-free whole eggs to support digestive health. This formula also features a proprietary GI health blend of prebiotics, probiotics and dietary fibers to aid gastrointestinal health and maintain stool quality.

VFS Low Phosphorus Formula can benefit dogs partial to a low-protein, low-phosphorus and low-sodium diet. It is also formulated with cage-free turkey and cage-free whole eggs, and fortified with Omega 3 DHA and EPA, antioxidants and B vitamins.

VFS Low-Fat Formula targets digestive health by delivering lean proteins with targeted, guaranteed low fat levels. It includes Marine Stewardship Certified (MSC) Pacific Cod and ocean whitefish meal, which are sustainable and wild-caught.

The company’s team of veterinary professionals includes a board-certified veterinary nutritionist, as well as a Ph.D. animal nutritionist.
