LUTZ, FLA. — METTLER TOLEDO has added an x-ray inspection system to its product inspection offerings. The X38 Pipeline X-ray system offers efficient, cost-effective in-line inspection of pumped food products for final processing and packaging stages.
The solution is particularly applicable for moist or wet pet food manufacturing, as well as yogurt and soups. The X38 system can identify glass, metal, mineral stone, calcified bone, high-density plastic and rubber contaminants in these products.
Additionally, the X38 X-ray solution automatically rejects contaminated product at a throughput speed of up to 14 metric tons per hour, depending on the process and nature of the product. The flow rate signal of the pump can also be automatically adjusted to match rejector timing.
METTLER TOLEDO’s new x-ray solution is available in three standard pipe sizes: 2.5 inches, 3 inches and 4 inches. Custom diameters are also available, and pipes can be interchanged to meet various or future production needs.
The X38 X-ray system was designed to be highly hygienic, withstand clean-in-place, high-pressure sanitation and harsh manufacturing environments. The in-line cleaning feature is meant to maximize production uptime, METTLER TOLEDO shared.
The solution incorporates software to fully control inspection, which develops full statistics for quality reporting and offers high Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
The system’s generator and detector are mounted on a movable carriage that can be moved during product calibration, eliminating the need to disconnect the pipe. This process can also be automated through a built-in handshaking signal. Test pieces do not need to be inserted into the pipe, as the solution automatically allows a contaminant sample to move through the beam to be detected.
METTLER TOLEDO’s X38 X-ray system also offers a compact footprint and thermal cooling design to allow for easy integration with existing production lines.
