LONGVIEW, TEXAS — INDEVCO Plastics, a plastic film packaging supplier, has developed a post-consumer recycled (PCR) resin-based, print-grade shrink wrapping collation film for multi-pack applications. It includes 50% PCR resin materials and is fully recyclable at retail locations across the United States.
The solution was co-developed through a partnership with Dow, a member alongside INDEVCO of the Alliance to End Plastic Waste. It incorporates Dow’s PCR resin, which was first introduced in the North American market in October 2020. The PCR resin by Dow contains 70% certified PCR sourced reliably in the United States.
“In our partnership with Dow, we focused on the right resin selection, film thickness, and impact on the waste stream," said Wayne Mashe, divisional general manager for INDEVCO Plastics. "The result is a high-performing collation shrink that not only meets the market requirements but also uses half the virgin resins and can be recycled and repurposed into other products.”
The film is low-gauge, high-strength and available in plain or print-ready rolls. INDEVCO reported it has passed various tests for mechanical, optical and processing properties.
INDEVCO also shared it can produce the shrink bundling film using post-industrial recycled (PIR) resin from its own waste stream.
“We are proud to produce this film in our Longview, Texas facility," added Jay Bodine, plant manager for INDEVCO Plastics. "The 50% recycled content allows us to reduce greenhouse gas emissions during production and helps our customer’s customer, the consumer, keep waste out of landfills and the environment. Both of these help our customers contribute to a circular economy.”
