ST. LOUIS — Global consumer packaged goods company, Spectrum Brands Holdings, Inc., announced Oct. 26 it has acquired another pet industry company, Armitage Pet Care Ltd., a vendor of premium pet treats sold in the United Kingdom and continental Europe.
Spectrum Brands purchased Armitage for roughly $180 million. The pet product company earned more than $80 million in net sales over the last year.
“We are very excited to add a market leader in dog and cat chews and treats to our highly successful and fast-growing global pet care business unit,” said David Maura, chairman and chief executive officer of Spectrum Brands. “Over the last few years, Armitage has grown sales at a 17% compound annual rate. We expect that our global scale and resources will not only help fuel future growth of the Armitage brands within the UK and across continental Europe and beyond, but will also strengthen its e-commerce business.”
Armitage offers Good Boy® dog treats, Meowee!® cat treats, Wafcol® diets for dogs with food sensitivities, bird seeds and treats, and dog and cat toys.
The management team at Armitage will join Spectrum Brands and continue to lead the company under its new ownership.
Other pet industry companies now owned by Spectrum Brands include SmartBones rawhide-alternative chews for dogs, Nature’s Miracle cleaning products and FURminator deshedding products.
