WASHINGTON — After recalling 12 lots of three dog food formulas due to elevated aflatoxin levels in early September, Sunshine Mills, Inc. has expanded the recall to include 46 additional lots of various pet food formulas for the same reason.
Sunshine Mills issued the expanded recall on Oct. 8 and is cooperating with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry to mitigate the situation.
The recall now includes 58 total lots spread across 23 dog food formulas and two cat food formula in various packaging sizes.
All products included in the recall were produced between April 3 and April 5, 2020, and distributed across the United States. Sunshine Mills’ Principle Super Premium Natural Dog Food, which was also included in the recall, was also exported to a distributor in Japan. The company’s Sportsman Pride Maintenance Adult dog food was also exported to distributors in Japan and Columbia.
No illnesses have been reported in association with Sunshine Mills’ recalled products. The FDA stated its investigation is ongoing and more products could be added to the recall.
“Sunshine Mills, Inc. has chosen to expand its voluntary recall to include these additional products as a precautionary measure in furtherance of its commitment to the safety and quality of its products,” the FDA stated.
