PHILADELPHIA — Bioscience pet product startup Because Animals Inc. announced Sept. 17 it has relaunched its Superfood & Probiotic supplements in 100% compostable packages that are resealable and “as good as conventional plastic” in preserving the treats on the shelf, according to the company.
The company currently produces one supplement for dogs and one for cats, each formulated with all-natural, human-grade and sustainably sourced ingredients, such as hand-harvested Atlantic seaweed, organic blueberries, pumpkin, coconut flour and wheatgrass.
“We are creating the most sustainable pet food humanly possible, and so it only makes sense that we don’t use plastic,” said Shannon Falconer, Ph.D., co-founder and CEO of Because Animals. “Our end goal is to nurture and protect all animals – from those swimming in the ocean to our fellow humans. And for us that means a strict no plastic policy for any of our products.”
In March 2019, Because Animals announced the development of lab-cultured meat pet food and treats. The process does not require antibiotics, growth hormones, GMOs or animal ingredients. The company said it plans to debut its first product, a cultured mouse meat cat treat, in early 2021.
In October 2019, Because Animals said it will launch a human-grade dog cookie product made from organic, nutritional yeast. The dog treats will also be packaged in 100% compostable materials.
Because Animals was founded in 2016 by Shannon Falconer and Joshua Errett.
