FAIRFIELD, Calif. — Raw pet food manufacturer Primal Pet Foods Inc. on June 17 introduced a line of functional, whole food meal toppers that offer digestive health benefits, immune system support and joint health support for both dogs and cats, according to the company. The supplements, called Edible Elixirs, can be served as a topper with any type of pet food or alone as treats.

The Winter Squash Puree formula provides digestive support. Butternut squash is included for its prebiotic fiber; organic cinnamon, turmeric and ginger help to ease upset stomachs and provide probiotics; and apple cider vinegar delivers enzymes, probiotics and balances stomach acids.

The Healthy Green Smoothie formula is designed to boost pets’ immune systems through “power greens” such as kale and parsley, medicinal mushrooms, organic chia seeds, coconut oil and sardine oil. This formula is rich in antioxidants, omega fatty acids and medium chain triglycerides (MCTs).

The third formula, Omega Mussel Mélange, contains mussel meat to deliver Omega-3 fatty acids, glucosamine and chondroitin, along with turmeric and apple cider vinegar to support healthy bones. Pork bone broth is also included to add extra glucosamine and chondroitin to support joint health.

Primal’s Edible Elixirs are intended for supplemental, intermittent feeding only and do not constitute a complete and balanced diet.
